The Warren Way – walking trail

The Warren Way walk is a lovely short walking trail for little feet or a much needed quick walk to clear the head and run off the kids energy.

The walk is situated between Ballina and Enniscrone on the Quay road, we drove along the road and then typed in Warren Way and google maps brought us straight to it. There is a small car park off the road and it is sign posted.

The kids loved the walk as its all safely fenced off and the path is nice and wide.  For toddlers I would advice staying near by as there is some gaps at the bottom of the fences where wildlife have borrowed under.  There is lovely boards along the way to keep the children entertained, Little Red Head and Mini Miss brought along their binoculars and spent ages spotting birds and wildlife.  The boards along the way give them the names of the animals and birds.  When you come to the end of the path you come to a gate that brings you out onto the river bank (River Moy) if the tide is out you can walk out along the bank for a long while.  Do this with caution as it is slippy and keep an eye on the tide as you could very easily get caught, if you aren’t familiar with the area I wouldn’t walk far.

Children’s bikes and scooters would work on this trail and buggy’s would be fine also, the path is nice and wide and graveled the entire way to the gate at the end.

We really enjoyed this walk and it is now a firm favorite of Little Red Head and Mini Miss.

enniscoe loop walk

Enniscoe Loop Walk , North Mayo Heritage Centre, Cafe, Gardens and Enniscoe House; Crossmolina

I truly feel that Enniscoe House and The North Mayo Heritage Centre & Gardens are a hidden Gem situated in the Heart of Mayo just outside Crossmolina  town on the Lahardane Road.

We headed out on a dull wet typical Irish day, but once we got out of the car and started our walk around the  Enniscoe loop we were transported to a land of flowers, paths and true natural beauty.  Unlike many manicured walks this walk is a haven of nature left to flourish in its environment.  The paths are intertwined around the tress and flowers and fauna of the grounds.  I would advice walking these paths, the kids couldn’t bring their bikes as some paths are quiet narrow and if you’ve a buggy with you make sure you follow the correct path as you will struggle in one or two parts.  If you just wanted to walk the main path to the magnificent Lough Conn then the kids would manage their bikes or scooters but honestly get their little legs walking and they’ll be so busy discovering all the nature that they wouldn’t notice that their walking.

The Walled gardens and Café are a treat, there is an admission fee into the gardens,  for us it was a toss up; pay to see the gardens or go for a cuppa and a treat in the Secret Garden Café where you’ll get homemade fresh soups, cakes and much more.  Can you guess which we went for . . .

The heritage centre isn’t a service I’ve used but I have heard many good things about it and would say it is a definite stop off if your researching your family tree.  Also if you are looking for somewhere special to stay I would advise you consider the Enniscoe House situated in the grounds; deemed “the last Great House of North Mayo”,  and dates back to the 1790’s.  Enniscoe House and The North Mayo Heritage Centre & Gardens is a special place for you to experience with the family  and friends, go for a day trip and have a cuppa or go and stay for a few nights and take in the entire Enniscoe experience.

The Break down

  • Distance; 2.5 km

Am I the Worst Mother?

As a stay at home Mam I don’t get performance reports on how I’m doing at my job, my pay isn’t increased when I’ve another year done, hang on, I get no pay and I’ve no colleges to compare notes with.  Instead I base my productivity on how happy my four year old and two year are!  I have two very demanding children polite but demanding, so while they scream from the sitting room,”Mammy I want a drink” its always followed with a “please”.  I must be doing something right? Some days are more trying than others as are some weeks . . .

Last week I said to my own Mam “my kids hate me”, I’ve only recently being teaching Little red head that the word ‘hate’ is a very strong word,  so I am possibly being a bit dramatic?

My days are spent tending to the every whim and need of my two monkeys, there are days where we have a blast and then there is days where it seems like all I’m doing is roaring and screaming.  I want my children to have a voice to know they can come to me with their problems, stories, questions etc,  but there are times where I think I’ve let them have to much rains.  When Little red head (the four year old) is telling me he’s cross with me and Mini miss (the two year old) is saying Mammy bold, I wonder have I done right by them?

I’m not afraid to admit I’ve tried all types of discipline the step, a slap to the leg, the naughty corner, many many charts the list is endless.  We stopped the naughty corner the day Little red head turned round to his Daddy and said “you bold into the corner”, he was two.  There is only two and half years between my two and the youngest one is really starting to find her own and knows how to push the buttons of the four year old.  I try to be balanced when sorting out who pulled who’s hair first, but goodness its difficult when she’s laughing and he’s saying I’m cross at you and stamping and grunting round the room.

The days where I just want to call in sick and I realize my work is at home jumping on my bed saying “pony on” and “paint nails”, them days are difficult to just get to pee in peace finish a cup of tea or have a quick chat on the phone uninterrupted.  I know when I’m tired or having a bad day my patience is easily worn those are the days I try staying even more busy, because on the days I don’t and I’m tired and the kids are tired the shouting starts and I’m watching the clock till hubby gets home so I can get a breather.

Every week I bake, do art/crafts, go for walks, go on trips, play, read stories and so on.  I just want my two monkeys to be happy, but the days I feel like I’m getting it all wrong I wish I could call a staff meeting in the board room with tea and muffins and hash things out.
No matter how the day has gone it always ends with a story, a kiss good night and “i love you”.

Not a days go by that I don’t ask myself the question ‘am I doing this right?’, like “they” say the child doesn’t come with a manual.  Last week was difficult and I felt like I was the worst mother and getting it all so wrong, then this happened . . .

It was just like any other day, but in what office would I get to spent this moment with my Mini miss.  I had just painted her face and she said “Mammy turn”. In that moment I just felt it’s all worth it.

Egg on My Face

“Some times Mammy does know best”;  NO no don’t stop reading this isn’t a oh to the advice on motherhood post but a little insight into me and my own Mammy.

We were out for a lovely walk with the two baba’s on the beach in Enniscrone and into Maple Moose for yummie ice cream and of course a quick visit to see our Grandad.

On the way home hubby rang, while we were pulled over chatting to my auntie.  Now here is where naive me comes into play.  I ask hubby how was his day told him we’ll be home soon and I then think ‘ah no I don’t need to tell him to put on dinner’, mistake number one!  I finish phone call to hubby say our good byes to auntie and off we go on our ten minuet journey to home.

As we near town little red head mentions he’s feeling sick so we slow down a little and my mammy says to I drop her off at shop so she can purchase the essentials for her hubby.  Here comes naive act number two, from one wife to another myself and mam get into a little chat about men and how they have it easy.  My mammy mentions how my hubby is prob asleep on sofa I say ” oh no he is probably cooking the dinner or cleaning up something, he’s not like Dad”!  (Mam just smiles, and polishes the egg)

After dropping my Mammy off at shop and little red head also went with his Nana as he’d had enough of the car.  I heading home with my big happy head, naive act number three, expecting my Mary Poppins husband at home.  What do I find; a peaceful sleeping hubby, oh well the red haired temper came on show!

Splat egg on my face!
Some times Mammy does know best,
 no matter your age!

Anne’s inspiration for Miibag was her niece Katelynn, who is an amazing 5 year old little girl with Autism. Katelynn is obsessed with seeing her name in places and Anne wanted to get her a personalised tote bag, having looked around and not seeing any that she would recognise,  Anne decided to do her own bag for Katelyn and hers was the first bag created.  Anne by profession is an artist and already has a thriving business  Funny Faces Face Painting so the transition wasn’t all to difficult and Katelyn adored her Miibag.  Anne got such pleasure from doing the bag and seeing Katelynn’s delight at seeing it that she decided she was going to do a few more….and that’s where it all began!

The quality of the bags is very good and it’s difficult to see in the pictures but there’s lost of lovely glitter on the picture and it doesn’t come off .  The only down side is the wait time is 2-3 weeks but you have to remember these are hand drawn and painted to your specification, my advice would be if your ordering for an occasion or a gift order in good time.  There is alot of companies to there doing these bags and I looked around and spoke to many of them but when I came across Miibag and Anne I just loved her art work and the personal touch.
Now I am of to the shops with my new bag!
